NEW PLASTICS ECONOMY CONFERENCE "THE UNSHAKABLE PILLAR OF THE GREEN ECONOMY; SUSTAINABLE PACKAGING"

The plastics industry is a responsible partner to policymakers and other stakeholders in addressing critical issues such as climate change, energy and resource efficiency, consumer protection, and waste management. Plastics play a significant role in ensuring the quality, comfort, and safety of new lifestyles and maintaining them over time. Their impressive cost-performance ratio means that people from all income groups can benefit from them. However, meeting the needs of society is not a concern limited to the present. Future generations also have the right to access materials and other benefits. Meeting the needs of tomorrow is at the core of the "Sustainable Development" concept. Plastic products continuously contribute to improving human life, conserving natural resources, and protecting the environment for future generations in a world where demands for water, food, shelter, sanitation, energy, healthcare, and economic security grow alongside a rising population.

Plastics, thanks to their unique properties, make significant contributions to creating a more environmentally sustainable and resource-efficient Turkey. Lightweight, versatile, and durable plastic materials provide energy and resource savings in strategic sectors such as retail, construction, automotive, and renewable energy. We must accelerate our efforts toward a resource-efficient and competitive Turkey. Circular Economy is one of the ways to achieve this overall goal. Sustainability of choices should not be limited to focusing on resource efficiency at the end of a product’s lifecycle; decisions must consider the entire lifecycle of the product to genuinely contribute to this objective.

Within this framework, our partner organization, the Sustainability Academy, is organizing the International New Plastics Economy Conference in Turkey for the third time, aiming to accelerate change in all areas with a circular economy vision for plastics. The conference hosts speakers and sessions that bring new perspectives to the circular economy discussion, focusing on the latest trends, innovations, and groundbreaking initiatives.

On May 11, 2023, at the New Plastics Economy Conference organized by the Sustainability Academy, we will hold the PAGEV session titled “The Unshakable Pillar of the Green Economy: Sustainable Packaging” from 11:35 to 12:15.

The session, moderated by PAGEV President and SEM Plastik Board Chairman Yavuz Eroğlu, will feature Murat Kökoğlu, General Manager of Köksan A.Ş.; Bekir Öktenoğlu, Business Development Director of Bell Holding; and Ahmet Yılmaz, General Manager of Şekeroğlu Plastik A.Ş. They will address the sustainability of plastic packaging, material and resource efficiency, relevant regulations, and plastic recycling within the scope of the circular economy, sharing their work and experiences with participants.

The conference will be held online on May 11, 2023, from 11:35 to 12:15, and free registration is required through the provided link.
