Protect the European plastics ' food”

EUPC European Plastic Manufacturers Association, which represents 50 thousand European plastic producers and employs 1 million 600 thousand people and manages the European plastic market which reaches 280 billion euros annually, brought a Turkish member of the Executive Board for the first time. Yavuz Eroğlu, General Manager of SEM Plastik, started working on new projects in the packaging group of the organization headquartered in Brussels. The first project is to stop food waste in Europe and then in Turkey.…

EUPC European Plastic Manufacturers Association, the roof Organization of 51 European-based plastic Associations, represents more than 50,000 plastic manufacturers. EUPC, which has a turnover of 280 billion euros per year and employs 1 million 600 thousand people, plays an important role in making plastic decisions in the European Union Parliament. The European Union has the right to speak on all issues related to the environment and the sector, especially the new regulations. Eupc has carried out a first in its history, and Yavuz Eroğlu, General Manager of SEM Plastik, who is the manager of many non-governmental organizations in the Turkish plastic sector, has chosen to be a member of the Executive Board and lead the packaging group.

The packaging, which is the sub-sector where plastics are used most in Europe as in our country, has a very important place in EUPC as well. 40 percent of plastics are used in the packaging industry. Yavuz Eroğlu started a new project called “Protect food”, which was first developed to prevent food waste after being brought to Eupc Board of Directors.

The outcome of the project is striking figures in the United Nations food and Agriculture Organization's 2011 report. According to the report, 1 in 3 of the foods produced in the world are wasted before they can reach the table from the field. The main reason for this is inadequate packaging in less developed and developing countries. Although the use of packaging in developed countries is more widespread, the market and hypermarkets” cosmetic " concerns because of the waste of food, as well as companies themselves in the name of not to risk the last consumption dates to bring the food waste to the fore.

EUPC European Plastic Manufacturers Association packaging group, which is acting to stop food waste in Europe, started to raise awareness of the retail sector. The organization, which aims at the most shopping points of European consumers, held a conference called “Retail day” and met with the Executive Board of EuroCommerce, representing European retailers. Yavuz Eroğlu, who said that Janez Potocnik, the European Union environmental commissioner, also attended the meeting and supported the project, said that Potocnik had made a speech that gave the message that it was time to stop the waste of food.

The European consumer more shopping for the daily needs of the market and hypermarkets, so the projects as a first step of the retailers selected Yavuz Eroğlu, retail sector, increasing packaging use, making the right packaging, the packaging of foods to prolong the effect of the retailers in the awareness of the effect of the ‘cosmetics’ to prevent concerns emphasized.

Eupc Executive Board Member Eroğlu, " the scarce resources of our world more than 7 billion people are inadequate to feed. While millions of people are dragged into the clutches of hunger and poverty, billions of bread goes to waste every day, tons of water is wasted, and 25 percent of the age-old fruit-vegetable collected from the field is wasted before it reaches its sales point. On the other hand, brands who do not want to take risks are throwing products long before the expiration date and the tons of products that can be consumed are destroyed. Market chains, because of the deformities of the quality and cosmetic standards to put forward a lot of available products are sent to the trash. As a result, tons of products that can be used in the context of food safety are going to the trash, not the needy ones., ” he said.

Yavuz Eroglu pointed out that there is a similar picture in our country, this important project they launched in Europe, in the coming period they want to do in Turkey, Eupc also supported their projects and said that they started their work on this issue.
