McDonald’s Turkey Launches “Green Tray Project” with a Pilot Implementation at Its Levent Restaurant
In line with its sustainability goals, McDonald’s Turkey has launched the “Green Tray Project” with a pilot application at its Levent branch. In this project, bread waste repurposed by McDonald’s bread supplier BIMBO QSR Turkey is upcycled by SEM Plastik, resulting in the production of new trays using bio-based and recycled materials.
These next-generation trays aim to reduce the carbon footprint by 50% thanks to their bio-based content. The raw material used in the trays consists of 40% bio-based content.
Sustainable Partnerships and Circular Economy
Through its role in this project, SEM Plastik makes a tangible contribution to sustainable innovation. The collaboration network established between McDonald’s Turkey, PM Biomaterials, BIMBO QSR Turkey, and SEM Plastik serves as a model in terms of eco-friendly production methods, recycling systems, and life-cycle-based approaches.
This project also directly contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal “Partnerships for the Goals.”
